Review:

When I got asked to read and review this book, I had no idea what Amazon FBA (Fulfilled By Amazon) was. The weird thing was that a work colleague came into work to say that she was not going to be returning to work after having her baby because she was going to work from home. Intrigued, I asked her what she was going to do and she told me that she was going to sell mugs on Amazon. Now, this was very spooky as I had just started to read this book. She was going to buy these mugs from a Chinese wholesaler, ship them to Amazon who would sell them on her behalf. Now this book was making sense big time! This book goes into lots of detail on how to start your own business selling on Amazon. This has got to be a ‘must read’ for anyone starting out and covers every angle making it a sort of FBA bible. It even gives you ideas on how to raise your starting money if you have none!. Wanna make money on Amazon? Buy this book now!

Resurrection America by Jeff Gunhus

resurrection america

When helicopters and armored vehicles filled with soldiers in hazmat suits quarantine the small mountain town of Resurrection, Colorado, Sheriff Rick Johnson feels like the Jihadi wars have followed him home. But while the town follows martial law out of fear of a virus released into the air, Rick isn’t buying the official version of events. As he investigates, the cover story unravels and he discovers the military’s presence and the salvation they offer isn’t what it seems….

Review:

I liked the look of this book as it seemed to be the sort of book I would go for. I’m glad I did as I found it to be a well written engaging read. The main character is likeable, mainly due to him being a former US soldier who returned from the war minus an arm. Thanks to new technology he was able to have a state of the art arm fitted. He then manages to become Sheriff of a small friendly town called Resurrection. Thinking everything had come together for him, as well as becoming involved

with his late best friend’s widow, things couldn’t be going any better….that was until he made a trip up to an old mine to locate one of his deputies. This starts a brilliant, but frightening story.
This book made me looking forward to picking it up again to see what would happen. There are not many books that do that for me and I will certainly be looking for more Jeff Gunhus books in the future.

Python: A Beginners’ Guide to Python Programming to automate the boring tasks and learn coding fast (Machine Learning techniques for database programming and computer languages Book 1) by John Slavio

Python Programming

Do you want to learn programming but too intimidated by the complexity?

At some point of the time or the other, every computer guy starts to have a feeling of making a computer program. However, most of them never make a move towards this feel because computer programming sounds scary. In fact, computer programming isn’t scary at all. All it takes is a correct selection of programming language to begin your journey as a computer programmer.

Programming languages are made to make the human life better than before. These languages help in making programs which increase the overall productivity, communication, and efficiency of the work. Out of so many programming languages to choose from, python is one of the most loved programming languages among computer geeks. This is because python is one of those rare languages which is both simple, and powerful. Python has indeed, everything that you may require to make a new program. If you will see someone writing a program in python, you will be really surprised to see how easy it is in python to find the solution for a problem.

In simple words, python is an open source, a high-level programming language developed by Guido van Rossum in 1980s. This language is presently administered by Python Software Foundation.

Python has proven its worth in all these years for both business and industrial use. Unlike other languages, it didn’t go obsolete and in fact, with time, the use of Python has increased. Python is broadly used in making web applications, GUIs (Graphic user interface), games, etc. and writing and reading the codes in python is as simple as reading regular English sentences. The program written in python is required to be processed before running as they are not written in machine readable language. Once you will learn the basics of python (as you are a beginner), you will find it really easy to move on towards the advanced features that python offers to programmers. Below are some salient features of Python which make it one of the most lovable languages among the computer programmers.

This crash course includes:

  • Installing Python on various platforms
  • First Steps – Using Interpretors, Editors and Source Files
  • Python Basic Commands
  • Operations in Python
  • Control Flow Statements – IF THEN Statement
  • File Storage in Python
  • 3 Sample Programs to Practise

This step by step guide will give you all of the tools you need to achieve….

Review

Like a lot of people who know a little bit about computers but not enough to be able to produce my own program. I have previously looked at python courses and they kind of lose me after the first chapter as they assume you have a little knowledge before you start. I mean, who would be crazy enough to think that they could just pick up a book and be able to construct a new program? Um, yeah ok well I suppose it was a stupid idea. Well, I got the chance to test drive this little ebook and thought, well what could i lose?. I like the speed of this ebook. It takes you from the very basic i.e installing Python up to completing exercises using that program.
Once installed the author takes you slowly through using the format method, escape sequences, operators in Python, expressions, control flow, If and while statements, files and storing in Python, cPickle and then gives you sample programs for practising and ends with an exercise for you to complete.
Having now completed the ebook I now have a much better understanding of how it works and can use what I have learnt to start using other books to take that learning further.
A great little ebook and it taught me a good lesson, don’t try running before you can walk!

Architecture of Survival: Holocaust Diaries (WW2 Memoirs Book 1) by Israel Stein

architecture-of-survival

A Jewish family survives the Holocaust hidden by a Polish family

In 1939, when the Second World War broke out, the Stein family escaped Poland. Paula, a polyglot architect, and Meir, a textile industrialist, fled with their only child, Israel, to Vilnius, Lithuania, and later to Bialystok, attempting to save themselves from certain death in the extermination camps.

In the midst of terror, there they found grace

In August 1943, the Bialystok Ghetto was emptied by the Nazis and all its occupants were sent to extermination. The Steins had managed to remain hidden in the Ghetto for five more weeks, before escaping to their new hideout—the home of a Polish family, backed by a German official, that gave them refuge. They remained hidden there for nearly a year, until the war ended, with the daily danger of being discovered and sent to death. They lived to see Bialystok liberated by the Russian Red Army, and eventually settled in the new state of Israel.

The events of the Holocaust as they were seen through the eyes of a real middle-class Polish Jewish family

Architecture of Survival brings forward the diaries Paula and Meir Stein wrote while in hideout during the Second World War, accompanied by the vivid visual memories of their son, Israel Stein, who witnessed the horrors as a child. It is a rare historical documentation, read in bated breath.

Review:

This is not one book but three from the perspectives of three family members. The first is from the eyes of a 5 year old boy, who tells his story from his first experience of the ghettos and the ‘actarias’ (thinning out of the Ghetto), the Lukishki prison to his eventual survival. The second is from the boy’s mother and her diaries, showing ingenuity and her survival instincts for the sake of her family and the third is from the father’s point of view trying to provide and protect his family. Whatever your knowledge is of the holocaust you will still find details that you were not aware of describing the horror that they went through, not only from the Germans but also from the Lithuanians (which i had never read about before). Some of it reminds me of movies like The Pianist, where the disabled guy is thrown out of a third floor window because he couldn’t stand up. This story cannot be told often enough and we must keep reminding ourselves of the way in which we are capable of treating other people because they don’t fit our ideal.

Review:

I read a similar titled book some years ago but found it difficult to follow and eventually gave up.

Yes, I have the inner reading voice, probably like many people, which I found hard to disregard but the techniques in this ebook have helped me no end. The book starts off getting you to identify your reading speed and gives you different techniques and exercises to improve that rate. As the book stresses, try to concentrate on just one word in a book and you will find that it is almost impossible to do as you tend to take in several of the words around it. I was quite surprised that by the end of the book I was able to read that much quicker and was also able to retain what I had read. The author has not gone into impossible detail, he just teaches us simple ways of improving our reading speed and retention. There are only 44 pages so short and to the point.

At $5.01 or £4.00 this is a must read for those wishing to try something new.

Stormy Waters by Miron Benari

stormy-waters

‘His past is darker than he could ever imagine.

Adam Bernstein wakes up on the beach at dead of night, next to a mutilated body, with a pounding, bloody headache and no memory. Terrified, he flees the crime scene, on a quest to discover his identity, his freedom and his life.

Will he find himself before THEY find him?

Adam quickly learns that his former life holds everything he could ask for: plenty of money, a stunning girlfriend and an enviable talent for drawing. For a moment, it even seems like things might go back to being normal again. But everything is shattered when an unknown man attempts at Adam’s assassination.

He knows something dark lies in his past. But he can’t imagine just how dark it is.

A man on a desperate race for survival Adam is trying to piece together the remains of his past. A dark, urban thriller about love, crime and blood that will leave you sweating.’

The book starts with Adam waking up on a beach near to a trussed up dead body and no memory of who he was or what had happened. This starts the journey of the main character along with another unfortunate soul, Victor and the  women in their lives. The story chops about a bit but it really is one of those books that you can follow easily and can’t wait to turn over to the next page. For me, it kept me interested in the story and characters. If you like crime thrillers then give this one a try and i’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

The Doppelganger Protocol (The remnants of war, Book 2) by Patrick Astre

the-doppelganger-protocol

“Post 9-11, the CIA began developing “Chupacabra”—genetically engineered animals—to track and kill insurgents in Afghanistan. Now the program is complete… and in Russian hands.

The first mission: eliminate an undercover agent before he can hand-off secret information. But now every person who came in contact with the body is dying, and the virus is spreading.”

I had not read the first book in this series so wondered if I would not be able to understand the plot. However, I was pleasantly surprised that you can pick this book up and follow it without that prior knowledge. I am an avid reader and would put this book within the top 30 books I have read. I liked the short chapters, I tend to get a bit bored of the authors who think I want to read about the same part of the plot for hours on end. I like short snappy chapters, flinging me around the plot so I can’t wait to read the next one. This is how this book has been written and I found it difficult to put it down. I found the first chapter laden with a few unusual words (thank heavens for the Kindle dictionary!) as if to impress the reader, but after that the author settled down and just got on with writing a good story.

A little note on the author, who served in the US Army Infantry, stationed in Germany during the height of the cold war. Rising to the rank of Sergeant E-5, Astre finished his last year of service as a Drill Instructor at Fort Benning, Georgia.

I love books that include plenty of researched detail, (Dan Brown, Clive Cussler, James Rollins) and this book does not disappoint. You can tell that the author has detailed knowledge of firearms and police/Authority practices.

The main character, Richard Daniels is a believable, credible and likeable character, which is a reason why I will be reading all the other books by this author. The creatures created are believable (Yes, honestly!) and pretty terrifying…Just imagine if something like that could be unleashed! The teamwork between him and his old army colleague, Chantel Latour takes the book on to another level and you find yourself cheering them on in their quest to find the answers to the Chupacabra riddle.

Great ending to the book as well (No, this is not a spoiler alert). I’m not going to give anything away but if you like thrillers then this is the book series for you. Buy it now, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.

Photoshop: The Ultimate Beginners’ Guide to Mastering Adobe Photoshop in 1 Week by John Slavio

photoshop-ebook

I was quite interested in this ebook as, like many, I had tried Photoshop many times without really knowing what I was doing. Sure, there are hundreds of Photoshop related videos on sites like Youtube, but most go so quickly and assume you know what they are talking about, that you do not have the chance to really learn from them.

I like the fresh clean look of this book, which starts off with an introduction and then goes on to discuss the different versions of Photoshop. It then goes onto the getting started section followed by the Tool Bar. The Options Bar, Basic operations in Photoshop, Layers in Photoshop,Working with images in Photoshop and Shortcuts are also fully explained. The book finishes off with the conclusion, ‘Open your Photoshop and start practising today!’

The book really does take you step by step as a beginner around the workspace, explaining every feature that you can see.

This ebook contains 167 pages packed full of easy to understand instructions and assumes that you have no knowledge of Photoshop at all.The book has a number of screenshots allowing you to follow along when you have Photoshop open.

If your looking for a Photoshop tutorial book that gives you projects to complete then you do not need this book. If you want a book that explains all the functions of Photoshop and give you a good foundation on what to build on then you have to purchase this book.
