Anyone who likes soul, Jazz funk or disco music must have heard of the UK band Incognito. They have been going since Jean-Paul ‘Bluey’ Maunick and the late Paul ‘Tubbs’ Williams formed the band from Light Of The World in 1981. They had past hits with ‘Always There’ and ‘Don’t you worry ’bout a thing’ but have been going strong since then and have now produced 17 albums!
They are probably the nearest the UK has to the great Earth, Wind and Fire. They have a brilliant brass section led by the talented Sid Gauld on trumpet, Matt Cooper on keyboards, Francis Hylton on bass and Francesco Mendolia on drums.
Their vocals have long been blessed with the sound of Tony Momrelle, the UK’s ‘Stevie Wonder’, Vanessa Haynes, Imaani and Katie Leone but have had so many other singers making their mark. Jocelyn Brown and Maysa Leak to name just a couple.
This album was released last year but is their most recent. It features 5 great songs:
The 12th of Never = An upbeat number with strong brass influence
Craziest High – A medium beat ditty with vocals by Bluey
Jam on the Tyne – A brass instrumental
Pyramids on Mars – Features Rowland Sutherland in an upbeat instrumental
Village Life – Featuring Najee in a sax and flute instrumental
I love Incognito having seen them live in concert and if you like this type of music you will love it too
